TKE Philanthropy Concert |

Tau Kappa Epsilon hosted their first philanthropy concert in the Fall
2007 semester. The event was sponsored by Coca-Cola and featured bands
such as Taking October and Paid to Funk. Other performances were put on
by brothers of the fraternity. All the proceeds and donations went to the
Autism Speaks foundation. This organization is dedicated to furthering
the progress in Autism research, aiding children and adults that are
struggling with the disease, and eventually finding a cure. The concert
was full of good music and all those in attendance enjoyed the
atmosphere. Jack Pearson, a 7th semester biology major, had this to say
about the event, “I thought it was really cool that a fraternity did
something like this, I had no idea it was for a benefit, but once I knew
that, I was impressed. I didn’t think that a fraternity would be so
dedicated to helping other people out. I pretty much thought it was all
about partying.” TKE is looking forward to continuing the success of this
event in the years to come.

TKE 5K Run for Charity |

Teke’s main philanthropy is a 5K Run for charity that is held every
spring semester. The event starts on Fairfield Way, in front of Gampel
Pavilion, and has a course that circles through the center of campus.
They have seen great success in the past couple years and are continuing
to popularize the event. The Spring 2007 semester had over one hundred
participants and raised over four thousand dollars. This year they are
expecting to significantly increase the amount of donations and runners.
All the money raised this year will go directly to Autism Speaks of the
Greater Hartford area. Through continued Alumni support, the fraternity
is able to achieve their goals that are set for each year.
